As shown in the download section, QCP is compatible with Qt4.6 or later.
I have the same problem with qt 4.8.5
Please post the complete error message, as well as a brief description of how you created the project.
Do the example projects and the sharedlib example project also exhibit this problem? Which operating system are you using?
The Project is compiled with cmake and I have the qcustomplot inside of a qt plugin which I load at the start and stops with this error message:
error: "Cannot load library lib.so: undefined symbol: _ZTV9QCPLayout)"
The examples run and down have this problem. I run on the code on linux based OS's.

and I use gcc 4.8.3
Hm, if the example projects run I assume it's some problem in the toolchain for the project of yours. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the quirks of cmake. So all I can do is suggest diving into literature about how to compile a .cpp/.h pair to a library with cmake and qt, and properly link them.
By the error message it seems like it's passed a wrong library name: "lib.so", instead of something like "libqcustomplot1.2.1.so".
Alternatively you could of course use the standard toolchain including qmake and make, if your project allows that.
